In today’s era, several companies and corporate organizations rely on advertisements to promote their products and make their businesses more productive and profitable. This advertising method persuades the consumers to purchase unnecessary stuff which they don’t even require. The essay will look into the pros and cons of consumerism.

Advertisements are a part of marketing strategies that draw the general public’s attention to a product or service through different marketing mediums. In other words, advertisements give knowledge to the people about the existence and nature of the product to create its market. Advertisements are highly advantageous to every business from small shops to large companies, as they get a chance to inform the customers about a range of their products and services. Usually, these business entities advertise their products and services in television, newspapers, magazines, social media, pamphlets, and applications. With the help of advertising, a business can establish its brand identity and reputation successfully. Ads play a crucial role in increasing the sales of the specific product. For example, a company lures consumers to buy products by offering lucrative deals and discounts. Eventually, the consumers end up purchasing them, increasing the company’s turnover and bringing tremendous profits.

But there are some disadvantages as well. Some advertisements mislead consumers to purchase their products which sometimes doesn’t consist of the quality or type of advertised product. For instance, advertisements allure consumers with discounts but offer cheap quality products. Another example of adverse effects of ads is that the companies advertise and promote inferior quality products to encourage people to buy them. Consumers feel cheated after using the product. This way or the other, advertisements misguide the public in a significant manner.

Despite its advantages like facilitating promotional sales and turnover to the company, it also has disadvantages such as misleading consumers about products. Therefore, as wise consumers, it’s our responsibility to ensure that we buy the necessary products.
